Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Dannilouise is planning a 4-day ski weekend in Verbier to celebrate her daughter's 21st birthday from 13-16 February. She is seeking advice on budget-friendly options for ski passes for a group of 20 college students, as well as tips for saving money during their trip.

Key takeaways:
  • Students should carry their IDs to potentially qualify for student discounts on ski passes.
  • Booking group lift passes for 15 or more can give a 15% discount on prices.
  • Consider half-day passes to save some money on shorter skiing sessions.
  • Look for advance purchase discounts online before buying ski passes.
  • Hostels often have cheaper evening activities; avoid tourist bars to keep costs down.

Hi Everyone, we have booked a 4 day ski weekend, staying in a hostel in Verbier for my daughters 21st birthday. (13-16 Feb) All her friends have booked into the same hostel which is great as we have now booked out the whole hostel = 20 people. I am worried about the cost of ski passes as they are all students. Any advice on best way to save money on 3-4 day lift passes for a group of 18-20 people, most are under 21yrs. And any money saving advice for Verbier would be most welcome.

    Thank you 🙏

Hello Dannilouise, and welcome to MySwissAlps,

What a great idea to come to Verbier for your daughter’s birthday! You will surely all have a great time as Verbier has an extraordinary skiing area. You can literally ski the whole day long without passing twice on the same trail.

Now I hate to say this and I hope not to be impolite, but people got to Verbier for great skiing, and not to find low-cost opportunities… Still, there might be student passes, so make sure they all have a student ID handy. 21yrs is not a limit between adult and child as far as passes and tickets are concerned, it’s more like 18 or even 16…

If you are going to a hostel you did the right thing. If the hostel has any in house evening and night acticities, join them and don’t go to the tourist bars, the prices are horrendous.

I hope I don’t discourage you, and I hope the moderators will come up with some good hints on passes!

I’m afraid Switzerland and especially a ‘famous ‘ resort like Verbier is not the place for cheap skiing.

    Ski pass price:

There is a note saying that a 15% discount to the prices below applies for groups of 15 or over

Adult price applies to birth year 1956 – 1994

    CHF 210 3 days

    CHF 275 4 days

Sorry I just noticed that 13-16 Feb is a high season date so the ski pass is more expensive:

    CHF 221 3 days

    CHF 289 4 days

    Hi Dannilouise,

that is a huge present, I am sure your daughter will have an amazing birthday.

I think they will count as young, not as an adult. You can find the prices at http://www.verbier.ch/en/ski-area-lifts/useful-information-shop-online/winter-rates/winter-rates.htm. Check also the half day passes (Morning, 8.30am-12.30pm or Midday, from 11.30am etc.).

Last year, I remember there was a coupon deal on http://www.deindeal.ch (page only in German or French but you can use Google Translator). I do not remember what was the details of the deal, I just remember I was thinking about to buy it.

After a Google search I’ve also found this page: http://www.skiservice.com/. I do not know them, but it seems they give some discounts if you buy your pass in advance. (Check the official prices too, to see if it worths it.)

I hope this helps. Have a look at http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/snow too.

    Safe skiing! 🙂

For 3 days of skiing 221CHF isn’t really that bad.

There are plenty of places in the U.S that are more expensive and you have less terrain to ski on. For instance Vail, a big name place to ski is $483 for 3 days in February.
