So confused on which pass is right for us!

Our extended family of 9 are arriving in Geneva on June, 9th. We would like to take a train to Montreux for lunch before taking the Golden Pass to Thun via Zweisimmen. We will be in Thun for two days where we would like to take a boat ride and jumping off to take the funicular to Niesen.

The next two days we will be in Grindlewald where we will be hiking and taking different gondolas and lifts to various places. When we leave Grindlewald we are renting a car for the rest of our trip.

Should we get a 5 day regional Pass? A Swiss Pass? Does the swiss pass cover any of the lifts or gondolas? I have been reading for two days and have managed to get myself more confused!

    Hi LindaY,

There are quite some options indeed, but in your case, the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland seems the most obvious one as you’ll primarily be traveling in that region. To see what’s covered in a pass, just go to any of the pass pages (e.g. Swiss Pass page) and click to the network map for all details.

Have they ever thought about simplifying the passes? They fact that there are so many more posts on the train passes than on the hiking should tell them something.

Hi magentaspeaker! Yes, it can be rather complex :-). But that does result in a wide variety of passes, allowing every traveler to pick what’s best for his/her specific plans.
