Suggested day trips by car from Zurich
A traveler is planning a six-day trip in September from Zurich and is looking for scenic day trips by car. They have already chosen destinations like Rheinfalls and Lucerne but need help finding good scenic drives and hiking options suitable for their group, which includes a baby. They are also clarifying details about the one-day saver train pass and its coverage.
- Drive to Uetliberg for easy hikes and good views, but you’ll need to walk a bit to reach the top.
- Consider taking the cogwheel train or cable car to mountains like Rigi for a better experience.
- Explore scenic drives around Lake Zurich, with stops in towns like Rapperswil and Zug.
- If using a one-day saver pass, confirm that it fully covers your trip to Rigi, but may have limitations on other transport.
- Driving allows access to areas like Emmental, but public transport may be more convenient for the baby.

Hi, I’m looking for multiple suggested day trips by car from Zurich (will have 6 days in Zurich in September). Two of our group will have driven from Germany and are not interested in buying train passes due to the cost and also they have a 6 month old baby. I already plan to go to Rheinfalls, Stein am Rhein, Lucerne, and Bern. What I am having trouble finding is good scenic drives and how to get up any scenic mountain for hiking. I’ve tried using your page “FIND SCENIC DRIVES IN SWITZERLAND”, but whatever choices I pick in the drop down menus, it keeps coming up with no trips, not sure what I’m doing wrong. Also, just to confirm, if we buy the one day saver train pass without the half-fare travelcard it won’t cover boats, or the cogwheel train up to Rigi for instance, correct? We’d have to pay full fare is what I understand. Thanks for any help.
