Taking SBB from Zermatt to Geneva Airport
A traveler and their wife are planning to travel from Zermatt to Geneva for a flight at 5pm on May 21. They want advice on how to ensure they reach the airport by 3pm, particularly concerning the possibility of crowded trains. They are looking for tips on timing and possible delays.
- Swiss trains can get crowded, but they are rarely so full that passengers cannot board.
- To avoid rush hour crowds, aim to depart Zermatt around 9am for a comfortable journey to Geneva.
- Check the train schedule in advance for occupancy info; it becomes available about one to two weeks before travel.
- If you arrive early, consider storing your luggage in a locker at the Geneva train station to explore the city briefly.

Dear all,
Thought I would start another thread so that I do not derail my previous thread. So here’s my question: Me and my wife need to board a 5pm flight from Geneva International Airport on 21st May, Thursday. We need to reach the airport at 3pm and we are thinking of travelling straight from Zermatt to Geneva.
Now I know we can’t anticipate natural disasters like landslide etc but we can anticipate man-made events like crowded trains. So we would like to ask if there is such an event where the train is full and no one can board?? Like a peak hour crowd on the train. Our fear is that we miss a train because it was full and arrive late at the the airport, thereby missing the flight.
We certainly intend to reach the airport before 3pm instead of 3 sharp but aren’t sure as to how much buffer to give.
