Bought Saver Day Pass for Glacier Express, when to make reservations?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Queenie is planning a trip on the Glacier Express in October and is confused about the difference between buying a ticket and a seat reservation. She has already purchased a Saver day pass, which she hopes counts as her ticket, but she's unsure about the seat reservation timeline and payment options.

Key takeaways:
  • To ride the Glacier Express, you need both a ticket and a seat reservation.
  • It’s recommended to secure your seat reservation as early as possible, as they can sell out quickly.
  • If you have a Saver day pass, it should qualify as your ticket for the trip.

I am very confused about the difference between buying a ticket and buying a seat. Apparently you need to do one well before  you can purchase  seat 93 days before hand.
I am assuming it is a ticket you buy before hand and I am hoping that a  Saver day pass qualifies as a. ticket you buy before hand.   So I bought a Saver day pass for my day in October.

Rhaetian railways has sent me my receipt and has said that I can buy the seat online or they can process the payment of a seat If I send through my credit card details. However I didn’t think you could buy your seat reservation before 93 days …..so I’m really confused.

    Thanks

    Hi Queenie,

All explained in our Glacier Express guide.  You may want to watch the video too – if you expand the table of contents, you’ll find it there.  Here’s the link:

So for a ride on the Glacier Express train, you need both a ticket and a seat reservation.

It’s actually recommended to secure your seat reservation first as these can and do sell out.  You can always worry about your ticket later on, whether in the form of a point-to-point ticket or a rail pass.

Have a read of our guide and if there are further questions, do reach out.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
