Como to Lucerne with Swiss Travel Pass, where to buy Como to Chiasso?
A traveler is planning a family trip for 4, traveling through Switzerland with a short stop in Bellagio, Italy. They need advice on purchasing a one-way ticket from Como to Chiasso for their train ride to Lucerne, as they initially thought their Swiss Travel Pass would cover this journey.
- You need to buy a one-way ticket from Como to Chiasso because the Swiss Travel Pass is only valid for travel in Switzerland.
- Purchase your ticket online in advance to avoid issues when boarding the train.
- The train ride from Como to Chiasso is very short, taking about 6 minutes, so the ticket shouldn't be too expensive.

In reading some things on this forum I am just realizing that I may need to purchase a one way ticket from Como to Chiasso on July30. My family of 4 will be traveling throughout Switzerland with a 3 night detour to Bellagio in Italy. We are planning on taking a train from Como to Lucerne. Per the SBB website I see there is a train that departs Como at 9:23 arrives Lugano at 9:58 and then departs Lugano at 10:02 and arrives Arth Goldau at 12:11. Departs Arth Goldau at 12:15 and arrives Lucerne at 12:41.
I originally thought since we will have Swiss travel pass that we could just get on the train and our pass would work, but from what I have read it appears I need to purchase a one way ticket to Chiasso from Como.
Where do I purchase this one way pass? Can I do it on the train? Do I need to purchase in advance? If so, where do I purchase? Can I purchase it when I purchase our Swiss travel pass.
We will have a first class Swiss travel pass. Is it a lot more to purchase a 1st class from Como to Chiasso, so we don’t have to move?
