We’ll be staying in Switzerland for 8 days and will be purchasing an 8-day Swiss Travel Pass. On the last day, we’ll be taking the train from Lucerne to Munich. Can I buy tickets via SBB? How can I make sure the Swiss portion is covered by STP? I’ve read somewhere that I only need to buy a ticket from the border to Munich, but will I need to get off at the border to switch trains? I’m feeling confused, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi unicute,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

For your train ride Lucerne-Munich, having the Swiss Travel Pass, that’s correct you would only need a ticket from the Swiss border to Munich as all your travel within Switzerland is covered.  Unless the timetable advises you need to change trains, you will not have to physically change trains at the Swiss border.  As long as you have a valid ticket you can continue with your train journey to Munich.  Plan your ride with the Swiss timetable:  https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/

Information in regard to travel to/from Germany is explained in our handy guide:  https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-guide/germany-switzerland/

There are also online purchase options for the German section (St. Margrethen-Munich) of your train ride in the link above, or yes, you can buy via SBB.

Should you need online purchase options for your Swiss Travel Pass, I recommend the ones listed in the attached link:

I hope this clarifies and helps.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
