Hi Uallin,
That’s right. Normally you will change in Interlaken Ost, and this is where the train splits. But there are enough signages to inform you where to take the correct train. Normally, the train that goes to Grindelwald departs from Platform 2A whereas the train to Lauterbrunnen departs from Platform 2B. It’s the same platform, just different section of the platform.
The connection and train information is displayed on the timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

Hi Anna,
When I traveled from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen (back in Sept 2018, on my to Wengen), I was on a 6-carriage train that went to both Grindeleald and Lauterbrunnen. At Zweilutschinen, they disconnected the three train carriages going to Lauterbrunnen, and the three going to Grindelwald. When I boarded the train, (at Interlaken Ost) and the on board monitor said ‘Grindelwald’, I got off, asked a conductor, and he said to board the last three carriages. Perhaps because it was later in the evening? (I believe it was around 2100 hrs), and after any rush hours? I have read a couple posts here on the forum where this has happened as well. Again, maybe the time of day/night or year it may vary? Just as an FYI to Uallin, to be aware of this, and that it can happen.

Danielsan

No matter the day time, there are always two coupled trains heading to Lauterbrunnen / Grindelwald from Interlaken Ost; they run together as one train as far as Zweilütschinen and separate there. The front part continues to Lauterbrunnen, the rear part continues to Grindelwald.
In Interlaken Ost, the train in the front at sector A always goes to Lauterbrunnen, the train at sector B to Grindelwald. This is a technical restriction.
The train’s destination is well signposted

The train does not split at Interlaken. Since long ago BOB trains normally run as one train as far as Zweilutschinen, splitting there. As Trainliner says, the front train always goes to Lauterbrunnen

Hi! Indeed the trains split at Zweilutschinen. All was OK as staff were on hand to guide passengers to the right train. They were effectively shouting “Lauterbrunnen in the front carriages, Grindelwald to the back”. Most helpful way.
However, just to note 7min connection at Interlaken OST is really tight for tourists with baggage. We had to run for it as the carriages were filling up & we ended up at almost the last carriage, the far end. Also most important, with the rush, we had no time to look for the ramp to wheel down luggage. Imagine the trouble bringing down 20kg luggage down the stairs…

Well, yesterday was exceptional:
- It was the weekend right before Christmas, thus many tourists (e.g. from UK) coming for winter vacation and to spend Christmas in BO.
- It was the first sunny weekend with excellent snow conditions and Jungfrau area starting their winter season which called many locals for skiing.
Changing trains in Interlaken is not a problem, all will make the connection. As you noted, their friendly train staff at the station is there to ensure that everyone will make the connection and get on the right part of the train; the train will not depart before this all happened.
