You would need to buy a French ticket at Chamonix. To avoid having to stop at the border , buy the Swiss ticket on line in advance

    The route is:

Chamonix – Vallorcine (Mont Blanc Express (SNCF French Railways section) )

    change

Vallorcine – Martigny (Mont Blanc Express (Swiss section))

    change

Martigny – Visp (SBB CFF Inter regio main line train)

    change

    Visp – Zermatt (MGB railway

The simple way to a perfect Swiss trip

    Hi Jono,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

I would follow the same route proposed by 1960man. You can check train schedules on the SBB timetable. For point-to-point tickets from Chamonix to Zermatt, you might be able to find some good deals here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france

    Regards,

I am dubious as to any ‘cheap deals’ for the route in question. Resellers often ‘shout’ about their fares being cheaper but then add on an admin fee! I suspect buying Chamonix – Vallorcine ticket ‘on the spot’ would be fine. There is of course also the chance that a local deal not advertised elsewhere will be available at Chamonix station.
