A traveler named KSL is getting frustrated with the SBB timetable app as it's not clear which trains are scenic express lines like the Bernina Express. They need help understanding how to find these specific trains and their schedules accurately.
Key takeaways:
Use the Swiss Electronic Timetable on the SBB website to find scenic trains like the Bernina Express, as it provides clear designations like 'PE'.
Check for panoramic trains in the SBB app by clicking specific icons, which can help narrow down your search.
If you don't see a 'PE' train on your chosen date, it may not be running, so verify the dates in the provided links.

Hello KSL
Welcome to MySwissAlps.
I have just keyed into the Swiss Electronic Timetable in an imaginary journey tomorrow morning from Chur to Tirano. The departure leaving at 08 28 is designated ‘PE’. All the other trains (leaving at 58 past the hour and with changes at Samedan and Pontresina) are designated IR38. I clicked on the 08 28 departure to get more detailed information, and the name ‘Bernina Express’ appeared along with other information, including a reference to a website for reservations.
Other ‘panoramic trains’ such as the Glacier Express and the Golden Pass Express trains are also designated ‘PE’ on the electronic timetable.
I hope this helps
Roger

Hi KSL,
Roger gave you an excellent answer. You might be interested in our 5-part video series about the Swiss timetable. You’ll find the first 3 parts on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@myswissalps, and also on the timetable page: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/. The train types, including PE (Panorama Express), will be explained in the last part. Part 4 will be available this week and part 5 next week.

Roger,
Thank you for showing me how to find the Bernina Express train timetable through the SBB link you provided. Unfortunately, the mobile SBB app would not show the same. Hope other members who are looking for Bernina Express timetable ignores the mobile SBB app. Later on. I found out the Bernina Express train web site also gives you accurate information. https://tickets.rhb.ch/en/pages/bernina-express

Hi KSL,
>>> Thank you for showing me how to find the Bernina Express train timetable through the SBB link you provided. Unfortunately, the mobile SBB app would not show the same. Hope other members who are looking for Bernina Express timetable ignores the mobile SBB app.
The Bernina Express is in fact also identified clearly in the SBB app. Please see the attached screenshots. It’s possible that you can’t see the Bernina Express in the app because you are looking at a date and route on which it’s not actually running.
This page shows you the various Bernina Express routes, and the dates on which they are running in the current timetable year:
There will be some slight changes to service dates and departure times in the 2024-25 timetable year, which starts on 15 December 2024. These changes are already reflected in the SBB timetable (and in the SBB app).
If you still can’t see Bernina Express services in the app, please be specific about the date, time, departure point and destination that you are looking for so that we can assist further.

Hi KSL
Many thanks to Alpenrose for clarifying matters. As she demonstrates with her screen shots, the SBB app operates in exactly the same way as the electronic timetable on SBB’s website. In particular, the codes for the trains (PE for the Bernina Express and IR38 for the ordinary trains on the Chur to St Moritz route) are exactly the same.)
Regards
Roger

Hi KSL,
In addition to the helpful replies, if you take a look at the screenshot I have attached. Click on the icon that I have circled on the SBB app and it will take you to various options that you can choose to advance your search.
If you click on “Means of transport”, you can use this to narrow down your search to specific train types (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/train/types/), in your case, the “PE”, panoramic trains.
If no “PE” train appears, as Alpenrose explains, they may not be running on your chosen date. Otherwise, you can read all about the Bernina Express ride and the dates of operation in the link Arno provided earlier (see reply no. 2).
