Using T-Mobile, ATT phones in Switzerland

Short summary – read this first

A traveler, Ciriza2193, is planning a trip from Zurich to Zermatt starting on September 25. They are looking for advice on cell phone service and data options while traveling, specifically comparing ATT and T-Mobile. Helpful insights were provided on the performance and charges associated with T-Mobile while in Switzerland.

Key takeaways:
  • T-Mobile generally works well in Switzerland, but confirm international roaming charges with your provider before traveling.
  • Using T-Mobile allows access to data upon landing with no extra charge, but calls may incur fees, so consider using apps like Skype for calls.
  • Check your current plan details to understand the exact rates for calls and data while overseas.

I will be traveling from Zurich down to Zermatt starting on 9/25/23. I currently have ATT as a cell phone provider but am planning on switching to T-Mobile soon as they are more affordable for domestic and international. Can anyone provide insight on cell phone service and data with either provider? Thank you for any insight.

    HI Ciriza2193,

I’ve read from previous posts that T-Mobile works fine Switzerland. However you should double check with your provider and find out the international roaming charges before using the service abroad.

Hi! I’m currently in luzern and have TMobile. Calls are 25 cents per minute and data/text messaging is included with plan. I have magenta. No issues at all

Switched from Verizon to T mobile for this reason. Can use data from T-Mobile as soon as you get off plane. No extra charge. However to make phone calls there is a charge so I just use Skype.
