Warm clothing hire for Jungfraujoch visit

Short summary – read this first

Sharon, a traveler from Australia, is planning to visit Jungfraujoch from Interlaken in September and wonders about the clothing requirements for the cold. She specifically asks if she can hire warm clothes on the mountain, as she doesn't intend to go outside there.

Key takeaways:
  • You won't be able to rent clothing at Jungfraujoch, so consider renting from ski shops in the valley before you go up.
  • If you're not going outside, a sweatshirt along with a light hat and gloves should keep you comfortable.
  • For winter gear rentals, check out Intersport in Interlaken or Grindelwald before your trip.

    Hello

We are travelling from Australia to Switzerland and we will be in Interlaken in September. If we would like to visit Jungfraujoch and won’t to go outside, do we need special clothes due to the cold. Can we hire them whilst we are up on top of the mountain.

    Thank You

    Sharon

    Hello Skrise2002,

You won’t be able to hire clothing at Jungfraujoch itself but many of the local ski rental shops further down in the valley should have jackets etc for hire.

Will you be staying in the area?

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hi Skrise2002,

You should have no problem at all at the Junfraujoch. Especially if you don’t plan on going outside. Just carry a sweatshirt and a ski hat and gloves in your backpack (if you’re traveling with one). They don’t have to be big bulky heavy hats or gloves, just something to help keep you comfy if you get chilly. Be aware, though, that if you don’t go outside, you may not get to take full advantage of the views available to you. The scenery is breathtaking. I hope you have a great trip.

    Regards,

    Danielsan

    Hi Sharon,

I’d try Intersport in Interlaken or Grindelwald. Further tips to hire winter clothes and gear are listed under “Renting winter clothes and ski gear in Switzerland” at http://www.myswissalps.com/plantrip/clothing/winter.
