Where to stay for Jungfrau and Schilthorn

Short summary – read this first

A traveler has planned a 3-day, 2-night trip to explore Jungfrau, Schilthorn, and nearby areas. They're seeking advice on the best place to stay among Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Gimmelwald, Wengen, and Grindelwald, especially considering Gimmelwald for its quiet atmosphere. They're also curious about food options in Gimmelwald.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider staying in Wengen or Mürren for a better experience, as Gimmelwald is very small with limited options.
  • Grindelwald is popular and larger but also more touristy, making it busier.
  • Use the Swiss railways timetable to plan your trips from each town effectively.

    1) Lauterbrunnen

    2) Mirren

    3) Gimmelwald (nice but limited lodging also will there be a problem finding food for meals ? )

    4) Wengen

    5) Grindelwald ( read online its very touristy ? )

We are actually looking at Gimmelwald cos it seems quiet and peaceful , is it recommended ?

    Hi KolaX,

The favourite here on MySwissAlps is Wengen (http://www.myswissalps.com/we ngen) but all have pros and cons.

Gimmelwald is a village of something like 4 buildings. I would lean to not staying there on a first trip – but make a visit there but it may be just what you want. Mürren (not Mirren) and Wengen are small, car-free villages that have a bit more going on which you might enjoy.

Grindelwald is larger and has easy access to several mountains and is therefore very popular for that reason – so it is busier than most other towns. Though for Schilthorn it is the farthest away.

You can read more about those towns here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion

You can use the Swiss railways timetable to plan trips you want to make from each town – see what may be best for you depending on your daily plans. http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable
