Which Swiss travel card is good for a student?

Short summary – read this first

Awais is starting a 5-month study program in Bern and wants to explore Switzerland during this time. They are looking for advice on which travel card would be best for traveling affordably around the country. Awais also inquires about night passes that allow free travel between cities.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider getting the Swiss Half Fare Card for a month, but if you plan to stay longer, the one-year version is more cost-effective for residents.
  • For evening travel, check out the seven25 travelcard which offers discounted fares from 7 PM to 8 AM.

    Hi Awais,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! 5 months in Bern allows lots of exploring, if you have enough days off from studying 🙂 We’re more geared to tourist visits here; I don’t know all the offers for residents and long stays.

There is a Swiss Half Fare Card for tourists, which is good for one month. In your case you may want to consider the one-year version which is mostly used by residents: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/detail s.

For traveling in the evening (from 7 PM), you can look into the “seven25 travelcard”: http://www.sbb.ch/en/travelca rds-and-tickets/railpasses/sev en25-travelcard.html.
