    Hello,

I am planning to travel from Zurich airport to Rhine Falls and back , and travel to Lucerne on the same day. Kindly suggest the best day passes for this purpose. I have a Half Fare Card.

Also we intend to keep our luggage at Zurich airport station. Is luggage transfer safe in Switzerland and what are the prices for same day and next day transfer.

    Regards,

    Urmika

    Hello Urmika,

You may want to consider a Saver Day Pass to cover all your travel from Zurich airport, Rhine Falls and also Lucerne within the same day.

Saver Day Pass information can be found below, it would be further discounted with your Swiss Half Fare Card:

The Saver Day Pass is only available online, you would need to check if it’s available for your date of travel.

For luggage storage and other luggage services you can find an overview here: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/luggage

For storage at Zurich airport, there you will find lockers or you can also use the left luggage service at the Service Center. If you scroll to “Information on other websites” at the bottom of the link below, you will be able to research where, how, how much if you navigate to Practical and then Services for Travellers.

Generally yes, luggage transfer is considered safe here.

I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

There is a lot to see in the Luzern area, much of it water-based. You may wish to consider missing out Rhine Falls, as they are really not hugely spectacular on a world scale (the drop is only 23 metres compared to the 57 metres of the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara Falls and the Rhine falls just 20% of the water flow of Niagara.)

Thank you @Yolanda for your response. A saver day pass with half fare card costs 59 CHF for my date of travel. However, as per my understanding, with the ZVV all zones 9 o’clock pass, costing 13 CHF with the Half Fare Card, I can travel form Zurich airport to Schloss am Rheinfall , and return. From Zurich to Lucerne, this pass will cover me till Thalwil, I just need to buy a ticket from Thalwil to Lucerne. This option is more cost effective. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you @1960man for your response too. I haven’t been to Niagra falls, so I won’t be able to compare. However, as per research online, Rhine Falls is great for a short visit, as I only have the morning to explore, before I can check in my hotel around 4pm. If you have any other suggestions for a day trip in Lucerne area kindly let me know.

    Regards,

    Urmika

    Hi Urmika,

Yes, you can use the ZVV 9 o’clock day pass to travel from Zurich Airport to Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall, and then from Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall to Thalwil. The pass is only valid within the ZVV network so be sure to get on the right trains (S33 and S12 should be ok). You will need to purchase additional ticket to cover the journey from Thalwil to Lucerne. You can check train schedules and ticket prices on the SBB timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

Based on your plans, it might be more practical to store your luggage in Winterthur station.

    Regards,

    Anna

Thank you Anna for your response. I studied the journey a bit more in detail.

I can travel from Schloss am Rheinfall to Winterthur, then from Winterthur, I can travel to Pfaffikon SZ , all with the ZVV 9 o’clock pass. Then I can travel from Pfaffikon SZ to Luzern, buying a single ticket. This is the minimum number of changes (3) I need to do for my whole journey, given I am travelling on a weekend. This is as per the SBB app. Could you kindly give me a suggestion if I am thinking right.

    Much Regards,

    Urmika

    Hello JiaJia,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Schaffhausen is not included in the 9 o’clock ZVV Pass. If you are traveling to visit the Rhine Falls. You can travel to “Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall” (https://www.myswissalps.com/rhinefalls/gettingthere) and this would be included – you would need a ZVV Pass to cover all zones.

To travel to Schaffhausen, you would need to buy an additional ticket: https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets

To view the coverage map to the ZVV Passes please can a look here.

Feel free to plan your journey via the SBB timetable: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hello JiaJia,

If I am understanding correctly. If you do not travel to Schaffhausen and stay within the zones per the ZVV network, then everything is included for you.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
