    Hi suzyswitzy –

    Welcome to My Swiss Alps.

It is hard to answer questions such as:

<<“2) 1 day in Lucerne, is it too much?”>>

without understanding a bit more about your interests.

If you are the typical traveler on a first time visit to Switzerland, you’ll skip the 2 days in Zürich, and put the time to use in Luzern and the surrounding area.

However, if your interests focus on museums and cultural items, perhaps a day in Zürich and Winterthur would make sense. Or, if you have known and specific interests in Zürich, that would be another story as well.

I’m sure that you know that , in February, you are dealing with cold weather and a lot of snow….The arcaded old town in Bern might be an option.

What time of day do you arrive and depart? In and out of Zürich?

    Thanks Slowpoke.

It will be 1st time to Switz hence the tot to have 2 days in Zurich. Not so museum kinda person but love to have more of the scenery. I saw the tell pass in Switz for winter which is 4 days for CHF140. So confusing now. LOLz. If my earlier plan is not workable, possible to suggest where I should go within 4 days using the Tell Pass of 3/ 4 days? Its flexible since I haven made any booking for flight. Plan to reach Zurich in the late morning/ reaching at noon. Thanks so much!!!!

    Hi Suzy,

As a 1st time traveler with an interest in scenery you’re much better off in Luzern as Slowpoke suggested. Zurich is not in the Alps, but from Luzern you can easily make day trips to the mountains.

You will first need an itinerary, then pick a train pass based on your plans. Please see:

    Hi Suzy-

When you arrive at Zürich airport, you can catch a train immediately to Luzern.

The timetable will help you understand the train ( and other public transport) schedules:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

On any day, there are two trains per hour to consider for Luzern from Zürich airport, as well as longer routes with more connections.

At 1218 ( and other xx18 times) there is a train to Zürich Main statin. with a change to a train for Luzern. That particular train comes into Zürich at 1227, on track 32 in the lower levels. The train for Luzern leaves from the main rail platform area ( track9) at 1235. An 8 minute connection should be no trouble unless you have a lot of heavy luggage. If you have Swiss 2 frank coin in your pocket ( the deposit for a luggage cart available all throughout the station) you can even make that connection; the carts ride the escalators. Or. wait a half an hour and catch the next train to Luzern.

The direct train, which stops at Zürich main station but does not require a change of train, leaves the airport at every hour at xx47, such as 1147 or 1247, and arrives at Luzern 1 hour and 2 minutes later.

There is a food court on the top ( ground floor) of the train station at Zürich airport; trains are at lower levels. The train station is directly across the street from the arrival hal. God signage.

The time table can help you figure out possible excursions from Luzern.

    Tx Slowpoke and Arno.

I think I will head to Lucerne after arriving to Zurich airport. Spend 2 days in Lucene + Mt Rigi then back to Zurich town and fly out from Zurich.

Does the tell pass winter cover Mt Rigi as well?

Btw, does the tell pass allow travel to Mt Pilatus without fees?
