Hi there – as you will be in Interlaken on the evening of Aug 1st you have the opportunity to join in with their Swiss National Day celebrations – good timing! At the Stadthausplatz Unterseen from 15.30 till midnight – folklore and musical entertainment by various clubs and bands. (in case of bad weather some will take place in the church at Unterseen) at 21.00 a children’s lantern parade from the Hotel Sonne Matten/ the catholic church Interlaken/ the Stadthausplatz Unterseen finishing at Hotel Metrpole. At 21.15. – Open-air concert by the Interlaken music band in front of the Victoria Grand Hotel and Spa. At 22.00 grand firework display on the Hoemmatte field and lighting of bonfires. You will be able to get information from the Tourist Office in Interlaken. Enjoy!
    Maggie

We will be in the Lake Geneva Region of Switzerland from September 12 to 19. Arriving in Visp from Milan by train. We would like to visit Zermatt and Chamonix by train and thinking about getting a regional rail pass for the Lake Geneva region (2 for one offer). From maps it seems like we can travel from Visp to Martigny and up to Chamonix. Is this coorrect?

Hi tay.tiffany! I’d say you should consider a 3 day Swiss Saver Flexi Pass, using free travel days on day 1 for your boat trips and the transfer Geneva-Interlaken, day 4 an day 5. The pass allows free traveling up the Swiss/Italian border, so you’ll need an additional ticket for the Italian leg to Venice. The timetable helps you plan your trip to Venice, as well as all other trips in Switzerland.

As for your itinerary: there’s lots to see and do in Lucerne. Consider a boat trip over the lake or a visit to the Pilatus. Browsing this forum will provide you with further tips. I think your plans for day 4 are a bit ambitious. You’ll have to arrive in Zermatt pretty early to catch the Glacier Express. It’s doable, but it requires you to leave Interlaken by 6 or 7 am. Getting all the way to St. Moritz first and then back to Chur for your overnight stay would add even more time to your trip. You could either stop at Chur (but you’d miss out on of the most spectacular part of the train route in that case) or get on to St. Moritz and plan your overnight stay there. If this is all too much for one day: an alternative route from Interlaken to Chur/St. Moritz runs via Bern, Zurich, Sargans and Landquart.

    Does that help you out?
