A traveler is planning a 10-day trip to Switzerland from October 8th to 17th, arriving in Zurich and wanting to visit Lucerne, Interlaken, and Geneva with their 10-year-old son. They are looking for scenic spots and adjustments to their itinerary, needing advice on activities, particularly in Lucerne and surrounding areas.
Key takeaways:
Consider staying in Lucerne for 3 days, then spend 4 days in Interlaken and 2 days in Geneva for a balanced itinerary.
The Swiss Travel Pass can be a great option for convenient travel across different regions.
If the weather is not good for mountain excursions, visit the Transport Museum in Lucerne, which your son will love.
Check train schedules online for smooth travel between cities and attractions.

We are planning a 10 day(9 nights) trip to Switzerland from Oct 8th to Oct 17th of 2016. We arrive in Zurich by afternoon on the 8th(jet lagged for sure). We were planning to stay in zurich for 2 nights, go to Interlaken or Lucerne depending on what you all suggest for 5 nights , 2 nights at geneva. We would like to cover, zurich lake, Mt Titlis, mt Rigis, jungfraujoch region, geneva lake. Pl suggest otherwise and anything else that we have missed out. dates are fixed. Itinerary is not. However we need to arrive at zurich and travel out of geneva.
Some ideas about your interests or hopes for your visit would help us make comments. Mid October can still be good hiking weather, although snow is quite possible at high altitudes

Hi, thanks much for a quick revert. We are travelling with our 10 year old son. Not interested in hiking or skiing. Love the scenic places and thats what we want to do. Yes we could skip zuric. Wanted to see the lake though. Maybe travel from Lucerne? We can then finish Titles nd Rigi before going to interlarken? Should we add something else? Will go through your links. Have been going thru this website a lot before posting these questions. Have some questions on the trains as well which i wil post once we finalise the places to stay and visit. thanks once again.
I suspect that your son would enjoy a ride on one of the few lake boats that is steam powered and driven by paddle wheels. You can see the engine room. There is a railed opening in the deck and you look down on the engine operator. The noce icture of the lakeboat shows one with paddle wheels.
Pictures attached… a bit old, sorry for the technical quality of some of them.
I’ll add a few more from nearer to Luzern in another post.
We were lucky to see some sunbeams one day from Rigi Kaltbad. There were so many clouds that we were afraid that there would be no views, but we had good luck near sunset.
I have posted a bunch of pictures from around Lake Lcerne.
To be fair, there is one place on the Zürichsee (Lake Zürich)that I find to be very beautiful.
Sometimes we go there by boat on arrival day (to Rapperswil) when jet lag makes us lazy.
About half way along the lake, between Rapperswil and Pfäffikon the water is very shallow, and there has been a bridge from the peninsula at Hurden to Rapperswill since prehistoric times. The road and rail cross the lake on the “Seedamm”. There is a boardwalk through the nature preserve.
Pictures attached.
