“I very much appreciated the suggestions of where to go based on our priorities of spending time in nature and away from crowds. I also appreciated the train guidance.”

There is a fast route, which Arno’s timetable link will reveal by default. If speed is your priority choose that. If the most scenic route is your priority do an advanced search and add via Kandersteg, Interlaken and Luzern.
Takes about 3.5 hours
Take an MGB railway train Zermatt (departure at xx.37 past the hour) to Visp, change into a direct Brig – Visp – Zürich route IC8 train (formed of IC2000 type double deck cars)
Hi Alka1274,
our next leg on our 21 day trip to Switzerland is from Zermatt to Zurich on the 31st.
we are taking the 9:52 am glacier express and getting off at chur, giving us about 5.5 hours of scenic route then changing from chur to Zurich.
i don’t see a date you are traveling. If you are traveling after July 31st let me know and I can post a reply as to how it went (if you are interested)
Hi
Thanks for the reply, but we are traveling in the second week of September and need to be at the airport so won’t be able to take the picturesque route.

And in any case Zermatt – Visp – Spiez – Bern is perfectly picturesque – as is most Swiss countryside viewed from a train…
