My husband and I are travelling by train from Paris to Basel via TGV and then to most likely Lauterbrunen in early May, staying three nights, with a view to going up to Jungfraujoch. We will then travel to Avignon via TGV, probably from Geneva.

    1. Could you please advise the best rail pass to cover the day tripping in Jungfrau and also the bigger trips in and out of the Jungfrau region.
    2. Could you also advise re any discounts applying to Jungfraujoch in the recommended pass and how to redeem. thank you very much.

    Welcome to MySwissAlps, MagpieMary!

I’d say you should look into either a Swiss Half Fare Card or a 4 day Swiss Travel Pass. The Swiss Half Fare Card offers a 50% discount on all trips. The Swiss Travel Pass offers free traveling on trains, buses and boats and discounts on mountain trips. Please refer to the Jungfraujoch ticket page to see which discounts apply. You can also check the Swiss Half Fare Card and Swiss Travel Pass validity maps.

Which pass is best, depends on the rest of your plans. You indicate you’ll be making lager trips out of the Jungfrau region too. If a lot of traveling is involved, a Swiss Travel Pass is generally more convenient. If you want to tell for sure which option is most economical, you should first make a detailed list of plans and then start calculating as explained here.

I hope this helps you decide!
