    Hi everyone,

    I’d appreciate some advice !

I’ll be visiting Switzerland for the first time soon and wanted to know more about the travel passes available.

I’m arriving into Basel airport. I then intend to travel to Grindelwald. I then thought about taking a day trip to Jungfraujoch. Then will return to Basel airport from Grindelwald.

Please can anyone recommend the best travel card for this ?

I will be in Switzerland for 5 days only.

Also, when the travel pass says it is valid for say 3 days, does this mean three consecutive days or three days which does not need to be used consecutively – so I could get a three day pass that could b used in five day period (3 out of the 5).

    Thanks!

Hi Trinity and welcome to MySwissAlps!

The Swiss Travel Pass is for consecutive days: https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass and the Swiss Travel Pass Flex can be non-consecutive days: https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpassf lex

These passes have the same covered area. It will cover your trip to/from Grindelwald and get you 25% off the ticket price to Jungfraujoch. When reading the pages from links above, click on the “where it’s valid” tab to see more details.

They can be bought for 3 or 4 days or 8 days, but not 5. Another option is the Swiss Half Fare Card. You still need to buy tickets for every trip but all are 50% off. https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisshalffarecar d

I would look through our page on how to choose the best rail pass here for more details: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses/practical/choosera ilpass

thanks for the advice. I’m not sure I will save anything by getting the half saver since I’m not really going many places. unless I can use the pass for buses and gondola rides?

Yes, it is 50% off everything essentially. Click my link above for details on the Half Fare Card and be sure to click on the tab “where it’s valid” as well.

Same goes for the Swiss Travel Passes.

And then you can compare the costs with my last link – then you know for sure what saves you the most money.

You do need to plan out every trip you will make first before you can compare properly.

    thanks!

I’m just off to Grindelwald first from Basel and possibly Jungfraujoch. Then back to Basel. How do I check if the passes can be used for these destinations ?

With my first set of links I gave you you need to click on the “where it’s valid” tab to see the PDF file and the coverage areas.

Of course the Swiss Half Fare is 50% off all trips. The Swiss Travel Passes, you’ll see on the PDF map, are 5o% off Grindelwald to First and 25% to Jungfraujoch as I noted earlier.

    thanks!

but to check where it’s valid, does the red lines on the map indicate that this is included on the half saver pass?

    thanks

There is a legend on the map that explains what is covered.

Red = train, yellow = bus, black = cable car.
For the Swiss Half Fare Card any line (solid or dotted) is 50% off unless a #2 beside the line.

For the Swiss Travel Pass solid lines = free. dotted lines = 50% unless a #1 beside it which = 25% off
