I will be in Interlaken from 22 Dec 2019 – 25 Dec 2019. Planning to go to Jungfraujoch on 22 Dec and to Zermatt on 23 Dec. Do I need to get the train tickets in advance and or just go to Grinderwald Station and Tasch Station to get the train tickets. We have 10 adults and 7 kids in our group. Appreciate the recommendation.

There is no need to buy in advance but you should be able to get bulk discounts for a group that size.

If you are visiting Jungfraujoch AND say Gornergrat or Klein Matterhorn at Zermatt it may even be worth buying Swiss Half-fare Cards for the adults. Kids under 16 and over 5 will travel free with a Swiss Family Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard) which is available for free when acquired in conjunction with a Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard). Kids under 6 travel free anyway (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/discounts).

Also see “Is group reservation necessary” at http://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/faq/. So perhaps my earlier claim that you didn’t need to buy in advance may not hold. I guess you could always pretend not to be a group if the discounts are not significant.

Thank you so much for the reply. They offered discount to Swiss Half Fare Card if we have of 10 or more adults and have to be a purchase value of CHF 2500. I will be only travelling twice by train to Zermatt and Junfraujoch. And probably one more scenery Gronergrat train ride in Zermatt. So the value is not enough for the discount rate.

Each adult would cover the cost of a Swiss Half-Fare Card and make a decent saving just with a return trip from Lauterbrunnen to Jungfraujoch. You will then save on Gornergrat and also have the benefit of free kids travel if you have some 6 – 15 year-olds in your party.

Jungfraujoch pricelist is here. I don’t know where they came up with CHF2500.

The CHF 2’500 is the minimum amount to be spend in order to be eligible for “special group discounts”, as you will see in the according link of my former post!

Oh, we are at cross purposes. I thought Johnius was talking about Jungfraujoch which offers about CHF50 off the price per person for more than 10.

Please ignore my ramblings. You only start to make savings on the Swiss Half-fare Card once you buy tickets worth CHF240 full-fare (which then just cancels out the initial cost of the card). The only bit of what I wrote that was correct was the bit about the kids.

Sorry, had a bit of a senior’s moment. My bad. 😖
