    Hi

I have decided to get an 8 day Swiss Pass it will be one adult and two children ages 11 and 15

We will travel from the US to London and from London to Zurich ..

then we will need to take the train to Wengen … I understand that to get tickets on the more scenic trains you need a reservation … we land at 12:30 pm – I dont know how long to estimate from landing to get

to the train and what are my options …can I just wait to be in country to get the train tickets to Wengen? Do I need to get these reservations prior to leaving and how long should I allow from

landing to taking the train … we only have carry on. Should we just skip the scenic train and catch

a regular train and do I need to get that seat prior to leaving or can that jut be gotten in country?

thank you so much for your help

    Hello Lizzie,

With a Swiss Travel Pass (and a Swiss Family Card for the kids) you don’t need to buy tickets or make reservations to get from Zurich to Wengen via Luzern using the Golden Pass route (http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass).

The Luzern-Interlaken Express, which covers that leg of the Golden Pass route, is just a regular commuter train. Reservations are possible though and if it eases your mind you can make them at bit.ly/2HHB2Ev. Look for Luzern to Interlaken Ost via Meiringen. Be aware that the reservation applies to the particular departure time you choose.

You can get a direct train (no change at Zurich) from the airport to reach Luzern in an hour.

Use the SBB Timetable (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) to plan your travel. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.

    Happy travels.

Personally I would take the express train Zurich – Spiez (route IC8) and the connecting train Spiez – Interlaken. The IC8 trains are double deck inter-city and will give you a nice view of ‘ordinary’ (but the classic quintissential ‘farmland, barns and chalets’ Switzerland) – which is equally rewarding as the high Alps experience.

Save the ‘scenic’ until you are settled in in the Jungfrau area
