6 of us will be travel to Zurich in coming Nov. We will buy the Half fare card. Here are my questions:

    1. Lauterbrunner to Zermatt via Kandersteg by train

    0702 (P2) Lauterbrunner —> 0723 (P2A) Interlaken Ost, walk to (P8) 0729 —> 0750 (P2) Spiez, walk to (P3) 0812 —> 0920 (P8) Brig, walk 7 min to Brig Bahnhofplat 2 (P14) 0927 —> 1051 (P5) Zermatt.

Is there enough time to change the platform, there is only few min? If we cannot make it on time, can we take the next train with the existing ticket? Which side should we sit to have a better view?

    2. We will buy the Half Fare Card onIine and I have a kid of 15, who will get the Swiss Family card. Am I need to collect the Swiss Family Card at Zurich airport railway counter?

    3. With the Half fare card, we will need to buy the train ticket for every trip at the station. If we take the bus, we need to pay cash in CHF? How do we check the bus fare for the trip? Where to check it?

    Appreciated to your advise.

    Hi ckchoy

    1. Yes, that should be enough time for you – they are designed to work. If you miss it you can just take the best train yes.
    2. You can order the Swiss Family Card (https://www.myswissalp s.com/swissfamilycard) at the same time as that you buy the Swiss Half Fare Card. You can buy them online here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisshalffarecar d/price
    3. Yes. Buses take cash only – coins only to be exact. The Swiss railways timetable will show you prices for all trips (first price you see is the half fare price) https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable

    Yes any train.

As long as your ticket isn’t a SuperSaver Ticket (noted on the timetable with a % sign).

Lucas & Impactedmind, thanks for your advise.

Which side should we sit to have a better view for Lauterbrunner to Zermatt via Kandersteg route?

If I recall correctly you’ll want the right side of the train. Last time I was on it it wasn’t busy and I could move around as I liked (this is common enough but maybe not in peak summer season).
