Rail pass for some days Switzerland on Europe trip

Short summary – read this first

Pemredbridge is planning a trip in early May, arriving in Zurich and then heading to Paris, Bruges, and Amsterdam. They need advice on the best train travel pass for their family of four, including two children aged 6 and 10, and suggestions for attractions near Zurich for their full days available there.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider the Swiss Half Fare Card for train travel, as it allows children to travel for free with a Swiss Family Card.
  • Look into spending the nights of the 11th and 12th in Luzern for more attractions near Zurich.
  • For broader train travel across Europe, the Eurail Global Pass could also be a good option.

    Dear Forum,

I would be travelling according to following itinerary

4th May – Arrival at Zurich airport by 7pm

5th May – Day tour in Zurich / interlaken / jungfraujoch …catch last train from Zurich to Paris

    6th May – Paris

    7th May – Bruges

    8th – 9th May – Amsterdam

10th May – Early morning flight from amsterdam (Zurich arrival at 10 AM) – Full day available for attractions near Zurich

11th May – Full day available for attractions near Zurich

Catch night flight 9pm from Zurich to India

Could you please advise which pass would be the best for train travel (We are 2adults+ 2kids of 6 and 10 yrs of age)…If someone could suggest the attractions that would fit this itinerary, that would be extremely helpful too.

Hi Pemredbridge and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Picking a travel pass for that itinerary is going to be tricky. Top of the head I’d look at the Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard) because your kids will travel free with a Swiss Family Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard) which is available for free when acquired in conjunction with the Swiss Half Fare Card.

I’d also look at nights of 11th and 12th in Luzern, just 1 hour from Zurich Airport. Plenty to do close at hand there – http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne/activities.

    Hello Pemredbridge,

As you are travelling across Europe, have you looked into the Eurail Global Pass for your trip? Might be an option for you:

Exclusively for the Swiss part Rockoyster gives you the best options, I believe. Also read:
