How important are seat reservations at Jungfrau?

Our group is contemplating how important is seat reservation on the Jungfrau cog train in the middle of May. If it is crowded, how long do you wait for the next train? Also, has anyone used the coupon booklet given with the promotion. Does it really give additional discounts on mountain excursions lifts not already included with the STP and at the restaurants? Thanks for any input.

    Hi Swissman,

I think in the middle of May reservations are not needed. It is always possible that groups may show up though…often around 10 or 11am fyi. 🙂 Early mornings are often quiet. http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch/tickets

Thanks Lucas, I was thinking May not be that busy in the morning before 10 AM. I will try to look further into the Swiss Coupon Pass to get a better idea of the discounts. Does the promo work with theSTP flex pass? Thanks so much for the help.

From what I see it is only offered with the regular Swiss Travel Pass.
Have you done the math and found the Flex the best rail pass option for you?

Thanks for your reply Lucas and 1960man. Our group is only 6 adults, and yes I have done the math and we need an 8 day flex pass. Based on the description, it appears it only works with the consecutive STP, but was hoping it would work with both. If you hear any different, please let me know. Thanks again

    Hi Swissman,

The promotion is only available for the Swiss Travel Pass at the moment, and I don’t expect it to become available for the Swiss Travel Pass Flex any time soon.

Thanks Arno, all the advice provided has been helpful. I did talk to the STC agent yesterday, and they told me you could send an email, and get it with the STP Flex also. However, the coupon book is not worth it, and the Jungfrau train operator told me reservations were not needed in the middle of May. Your site and all of the comments from the experts that helped me has been such a great help! Thanks
