Hi Jmcgovern2,
If it is not big luggage, you can take it with you easily. If it is a larger suitcase, the cable car or funicular staff will help you.
Hotel guests can take suitcases with them too, no problem.
Are you staying in the Pilatus Kulm Hotels?
Here is how you can get to Pilatus: http://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus/gettingthere

Hi- we stayed at Mt. Pilatus Kulm Hotel for 1 night last May 26 and we would like to share our experience.
We only carried our essentials in one of our smallest suitcase. The rest of our luggage was stored at our hotel in Luzern. Fortunately, they allowed storage for free. Alternatively, you can have it stored at SBB stations.
If you use the Alpnachstad to go up, there are steps to climb the cogwheel train depending on where you want to seat. Regrettably, we didn’t use the funicular because of the dreaded 10 minute walk described in the route. We went down using the cogwheel, too, to Alpnachstad.
Looking back, we could have just used our backpacks and would have enjoyed the Dragon ride, too. Even a small suitcase was a burden to drag and lift.
We enjoyed breakfast more than the dinner. We were still hungry after dinner. So bring some snacks.
