    Hi,

For an upcoming trip, I’ll be buying a Swiss Half Fare Card online for myself, and along with this will request a Swiss Family Card for may daughter. She will be 15 at the start of the Half Fare Card month-long period, but will turn 16 during that month.

Based on this info: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard/howtouse, it sounds like she should be eligible to travel for free during that month long period, even after she turns 16.

However as I was exploring some fares I noticed that the SBB website doesn’t seem to include this logic – it doesn’t seem to allow any way to apply a child discount if the age is 16 at the time of travel. (On the website, you declare the birth date of each passenger)

Is this just a limitation of the website… i.e. is it necessary to just book these at the train station (machine or otherwise?)

    Thanks,

    -cs

    Hi CS,

Thanks for joining MySwissAlps! You are right, the Swiss Family Card can be used in this case. The child has to be 15 or younger on the start date. You only need the SBB website to check travel times. There is nothing to book for the child once you have the Swiss Half Fare Card and Swiss Family Card. Just board and enjoy the ride. Please see “Traveling with the Swiss Family Card” on the page you mentioned. All you need is discounted tickets for the adults: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland halffare.

You can buy the Swiss Half Fare Card and Swiss Family Card online and print them at home. Please find options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/price.
