Dear The Experts, need your expertise, 1st time in Swiss. I will be travelling with 4-adults to ZH to Interlaken as our base of 3-night. We plan to do Swiss Village, see mountains (Mt Titlis) take cable car, Toboggan, Cliff Walk. Is it doable to drive from Interlaken to Mt Titlis and ride Toboggan in June 2019? How long it takes to drive? Thanking you in advance.

Hello AvaGrey and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

You can drive from Interlaken to Engelberg where you catch a cable car to Titlis. According to Google maps it takes one hour 15 minutes for the drive – one way.

    Have you read http://www.myswissalps.com/ca rversustrain?

There is plenty to do in the Jungfrau Region. Are you sure you want to go to Titlis from there? See http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion/activitie s.

Definitely stay in Luzern rather than Engelberg. It is a lovely city with plenty to do there.

If you are staying in Luzern you could do Pilatus and Titlis in a longish day depending how long you plan to stay at each. If you are coming from Interlaken it would be a very long day I think.

Use the SBB Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to plan your travel. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on that page.

You can get off the gondola to Pilatus at Fräkmüntegg and try this toboggan run – http://www.pilatus.ch/en/disc over/fraekigaudi-toboggan-run/.

Thank you so so much on the info and SBB and toboggan. Cant wait for the ride. Since we are still planning the trip in June 2019. We would like to take a ride via Bernina express from Chur to Tirano Italy to Venice. However I have couple of questions (1) for bernina express ride, shd we take the train from Lucerne or Interlaken or Zurich (assuming we have completed Mt PIlatus/Titilis/Interlaken) (2) How long is the trip to reach Chur for Bernina (3) How is the trip from Bernina Chur to Tirano (4) Do you have any forum that talk bou Tirano to Venice?

    1) The actual Bernina Express departs Chur at 8:32am. If you want to catch that you really need to get a train departing Zurich at 7:07. If that timing doesn’t suit you can take regular trains from Chur to Tirano. The BEX requires reservations; regular trains don’t.

    2) See timetable at http://www.rhb.ch/en/panorami c-trains/bernina-express#info

    3) Great. See http://www.myswissalps.com/be rninaexpress.

    4) Once at Tirano you are in Italy, so outside the scope of MySwissAlps. You can use the SBB timetable to plan the entire trip Zurich (or Luzern) to Venice. See also http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/italy.

Can I ask about Swiss half Travel Pass. If we plan to drive from ZH to Mt Pilatus, can I use the half Pass for the Golden Package (Cable, Cogwheel, Gondola, Boat) even though we will not travel via train.

And Can we also seek your opinion on this plan. (Day 1) From ZH Airport to travel via car to Lucern (Day 2) With car, travel to Gelmerbahn, Grinderwald, Lauterbrunen – use the Half Pass wherever possible. (Day 3) Travel with car to Mt Pilatus (Day 4) At Lucern train station, return the car. And Buy Swiss Travel Half Pass from Lucern train station to travel via train to Zermatt (Day5) With the Half Pass, Travel to Mt Matterhorn (Day 6) With Half Pass, travel to Geneva. Can we have your opinion or suggestion on this plan. Can we enjoy Half Pass in Zermatt (Matterhorn, buses, trains).

    Hi AvaGrey888,

The Swiss Half Fare Card I think you mean? http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard
Yes, you can, it will get you 50% off virtually every trip you take by bus, boat, cable car, train etc. See the route map here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/validi ty

If you have a car in Switzerland for sure then you might as well drive wherever you can and use the Swiss Half Fare Card when you can’t use a car (cable cars, boats etc). Though I think just taking trains everywhere here is better than renting a car most of the time.

So drive to Zermatt (well to Täsch) and then train in to Zermatt. You can visit Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn with the Swiss Half Fare Card’s and enjoy a 50% discount – see link above for more details.

If you have a car, a day trip out of Interlaken could be to Lauterbrunnen and then up to Isenfluh and Sulwald. In Sulwald, grab lunch at the Sulwald Stübli and inquire which way to the great overlooks. Enjoy.
