Jungfrau Travel Pass with children

We have a family card for the children, so they travel with us for free. Does this mean we only need a Jungfrau Travel Pass for the two adults, or do we need the children’s Jungfrau Travel Pass? In other words, is the family card valid with an adult Jungfrau Travel Pass?

Hi inspiron42 and welcome to MySwissAlps!
The Swiss Family Card (https://www.myswissalp s.com/swissfamilycard) is only valid with adults using the Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass)
or Swiss Half Fare Card (https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisshaalffareca rd).Are you also buying one of those passes as well? If not there is no point getting a Swiss Family Card (nor can you I think).
In your case, if using the Jungfrau Travel Pass when traveling, you’ll need to buy the Jungfrau Travel Pass for children which is priced quite low at least 🙂

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes we do have the half fare card, so it seemed counter intuitive to have to pay on routes where the children would already have been free, just because we have bought a pass with our half fare card rather than a ticket.
When you go to Jungfrau.ch to buy a pass it states ‘child (6-16 without family card)’ under the option for buying a child’s pass, which seems to suggest that the family card is valid. The info sheet that shows the area of validity, however, states ‘Swiss Family Card not valid’, hence the confusion.

I know….too many options.
Have you done the math to see which rail pass is the best for your family with your itinerary?
IE Swiss Half Fare Card and Swiss Family Card only
or also with the Jungfrau Travel Pass and child Jungfrau Travel Card etc? or just with the Jungfrau Travel Pass?

If it is too many options to think about and too much math (it kinda is) I’d just go with either the Swiss Half Fare Card and the Swiss Family Card and not sweat the other stuff. The SHFC is a safe option in that you are probably saving as much as you can or close to it.
But if you want to be sure you aren’t leaving 20 or 50chf on the table, our spreadsheet will tell you for sure which pass or combination of passes is best for your itinerary.
Removed userParticipant72625 posts25 July 2018 at 4:46:49 #892092The Jungfrau Pass conditions state “Junior travelcard, Children’s Co-travelcard and Swiss
Family Card not valid.” According to this the “Swiss Family Card” is NOT VALID and gives a child between 6-15 no discount. It appears that you must purchase a Jungfrau Pass “Junior Card” for $30 and IF you have this Jungfrau Pass specific “Junior Card” then a child, accompanied by a fare paying adult, can travel to Jungfraujoch “Top of the World” for “free” (i.e. no additional cost beyond the $30 already paid for the “Junior Card”). See about half way down on this link for the language indicating the “Swiss Family Pass” is “not valid.” http://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfrau-travel-pass/. If you then go to this link and enter in an Adult ticket to Jungfraujoch ($69 with the Jungfraujoch Pass) and then enter in a “child” it brings up a price of $0.oo for the “child.”
Example: Family of four (2 adults and 2 children between 5-16. 2 x $180 for Adult 3-day Jungfrau Passes, 2 x $30 for “Junior Card”. 2 Adults purchase addition Jungfraujoch “Top of the World” return tickets for 2 x $69 and the 2 children travel for NO added cost. Total $360 + $60 + $138 = $558
