Hello, we are 2 adults flying into Zurich, spending 2 nights in
Lucern, staying 5 nights in Lauterbrunnen,
then traveling to Brig and on to Venice.
While in Lauterbrunnen, our plans are to go up to Jungfraujoch, travel
to various towns in the area for easy hikes, and to take a boat trip to Thun or
Brienz. We have looked at several rail passes and find
that the Jungfrau bahn 6 day pass and the BernerOberland Regional pass both
seem to suit our needs. Anybody have an
idea of why one of these might be preferable to the other? Thanks.
    Eve

    Hi Eve,

In your case, I would prefer the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland plus a Swiss Half Fare Card. The Jungfrau Railways Pass just covers the Jungfrau region, but you have planned to do more than that.

With the Swiss Half Fare Card, you will get a 50% discounts on your transfer to Lucerne, the day trips you do from Lucerne, and the leg to Domodossola (Swiss border) on your way to Venice. Also the Regional-Pass will be discounted by CHF 70 per person because you have a Swiss Half Fare Card. The Regional-Pass covers your transfer from Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen, day trips you do there, and part of the trip to Domodossola (download the map for details please). See the pages below for how the passes work, prices, etc. You can obtain both passes from the Swiss Railways website.
