Hello. This is Mike and it is my first attempt at posting a question.

My Maggie died in 2021 and I have now decided to return to our beloved Switzerland for the first time on my own. I am at the planning stage but have been told that since I had a heart attack I cannot safely go above 2000 metres. Does anyone know of a single site where I can check out elevations so that I don't have to go to every destination?

Mike

Hello Mike!

A warm welcome to you at the forum. How wonderful to see you here, and I'm so happy that you're preparing for your new trip to Switzerland. I'm sorry you have to do so without Maggie. I still hope you'll have a wonderful visit, albeit in a very different way.

I'm not sure if there's one single list with elevations of the most-visited Swiss mountain tops. Maybe you could try the SchweizMobil / SwissMobility website or app: map.schweizmobil.ch/. They're doing a pretty good job of indicating elevations on their maps if you zoom in.

Alternatively, you can find altitudes through each of our mountain pages, although that's not the one single list you're looking for: www.myswissalps.com/activities/naturalsites/mountains.

I hope to see you around more often here and we'll be very happy to help :-)!

Hi Mike! Just wanted to say that it's great to see you here (again). I hope you will have a wonderful trip to Switzerland, although I can imagine it will be hard without Maggie. Please let us know how your trip was!

Hi Mike,

2000m is a high elevation. Most, maybe all, Swiss villages are below that altitude. So you may go to any alpine resort, just don’t go too much above. Examples : Grindelwald or Wengen are OK, but Kleine Scheidegg is above 2000m; Zermatt is 1600m, look at the Matterhorn from there and give up Gornergrat. I hope that helps.

Hello. Thank you to Annika and Olga for your warm greetings.

Thank you Snowman. Yes mountain elevations are easy because every map shows them. I was hoping to check out places I might pass through on my way to a favourite place - for example the trip from St Moritz to Locarno or Brig to Domodossola or the journey to Andermatt.

Well, Mike, from St Moritz to Locarno travel via the Maloja Pass and not the Bernina. From Brig to Domodossola, if you deem the elevation of Simplon Pass (2006m) too high, use the rail tunnel. But if you know how to get elevations from maps you are safe.
