My husband and daughter and I are traveling into Switzerland from Milan in July. Our first stop is Lugano. We are then traveling to Murren for 3 nights, Lausanne for 3 nights to visit friends, then off to the Geneva airport for home.

I have been thinking of which pass to buy for our travels. I know in Murren we will be doing some exploring of neighboring towns for good hikes. I am not sure how many boat rides we will be taking.

My daughter will save us lots of money with the Swiss Family Card so we believe the regular Swiss Travel Pass is best. Is this likely to be true? Can we get a Swiss Family Card for her regardless of whether we choose the consecutive day or select day option for our passes?

Lastly, I don't know whether we should buy 1st or 2nd class tickets. We like to be comfortable but want to use our money where it matters.

Thanks!

Welcome grace1992!

What you call the "select day option" is the Swiss Travel Pass Flex. This pass is pretty expensive and does not work well for most itineraries. A regular Swiss Travel Pass will probably be more economical and more convenient. Another option is the Swiss Half Fare Card, although it's a bit less convenient as you would need to buy tickets for each trip. In any case, the free Swiss Family Card can be ordered along with all these passes, so your daughter will travel for free regardless of your choice. With the exception of the flex pass, the other passes can be printed at home until a few business days before traveling. Please find more information here:
