Delayed arrival, train tickets to Lucerne still ok

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Jimmyd missed his train from Paris to Basel and is concerned about his tickets for trains from Basel to Olten and then to Lucerne. He discovered that the tickets have no specific times attached, just dates, and he's looking for confirmation that they will still be valid for the travel day.

Key takeaways:
  • Don’t worry, regular Swiss tickets are valid for the whole day.
  • Even if the weather is rainy, you can still visit Mount Rigi or Mount Pilatus, as the indoor cogwheel train ride is great fun.
  • In Lucerne, check out the Swiss Museum of Transportation, which is very popular and worthwhile.
  • If you're looking for activities in Pontresina, consider visiting Corvatsch for stunning views, similar to those on Titlis.

    Hi
I missed my Paris to Basel train so had to buy another ticket for 2 hours later
Will this affect my already booked trains from Basel to olten and then to Luzern? I noticed those tickets have no times, just a date so hopefully they are still valid?

Fear not Jimmy, regular (ie non-Supersaver) Swiss tickets are valid for the whole day.

Hello Jimmyd and this time welcome to SWITZERLAND!!! 🙂 Hope you’ve had a good journey so far.

Don’t worry, as Rockoyster says you will be fine as you say there is only a date and no time on your ticket.

    Enjoy your stay!!

    Best,
    Steph

    Hi all

Thank you. You were right and I finally made it to Lucerne.

What a beautiful city so far! Are there any supermarkets open that we can buy water from for our room.. anything you suggest we do tonight like a good place to eat?

Also I just checked the weather ..raining for all my days here…oh well 😭

Do you still think going to mountains such as rigi and Pilatus will be doable?

    Hi Jimmyd,

Yes, the weather is a little dodgy these days, but don’t be demotivated!

You can for sure still visit Mount Rigi or Mount Pilatus, of course maybe with a little less view, but especially the cogwheel train ride on Mount Pilatus is for sure also spectacular on a less nice day, and transportation is indoor anyway, luckily!

You can also visit the Swiss Museum of Transportation in Lucerne, the most visited museum of the country.

We did rigi today..had nice views going up but once at the top we were in a cloud after about 10mins 😭
Thinking of doing Titlus tomorrow but I am scared of heights ha and apparently the weather tomorrow is the worst all week. Would it be worth doing? Considering I’ve never seen snow before…

    Hi Jimmyd,

What have you decided to do in the end today?! It is quite horrible weather to be blunt, whereas on the altitude of Mount Titlis this precipitation is quite definitely snow. Are you there, can you confirm, or did you decide to stay more indoor today.

You can always also visit Engelberg, the village at the foot of the mountain, and e.g. the monastery there, where you can watch some cheese making.

In any case, hope you’re fine and having a good time.

    Best,
    Steph

    Hi Steph
We decided to stay indoors. We are at the glass factory.
Quite annoyed that our whole stay is poor weather. We leave for Pontresina tomorrow and the weather looks bad there too…

Will I have Titlus equivalent opportunities in Pontresina?

Hi jimmyd! I’m sorry to hear about the weather. The glass factory is really nice though. And did you explore the Museum of Transport in Lucerne: http://www.myswissalps.com/mu seumoftransport? That would be fun too. Let’s hope things are better once you’re in Pontresina. I can definitely recommend the Corvatsch there, if you’re looking for something similar to Titlis: https://www.myswissalp s.com/corvatsch.
