I have heard that if due to time constraint, we are not able to purchase cruise ticket before boarding ship/boat in Lake Lucerne (either in direction of alpnachstad or in direction of vitznau), then we can purchase tickets on after boarding on cruise.

Is it true?

Please also confirm whether we can purchase tickets of golden round trip of Mount Pilatus (also) on cruise or these tickets are to be purchased on ticket counters only?

Hi Malang85,

The Golden Round Trip is only operational from May until October. You can still visit Pilatus via the cable car from Kriens. More details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus/gettingthere

Hi again.

You can purchase the Golden Roundtrip tickets from the valley stations is Kriens and Alpnachstad, Pilatus Shop Lucerne, at the boat pier in Lucerne, SBB RailAway and the Tourist Information at Lucerne main train station. You can also purchase a Golden Roundtrip package online: http://www.myswissalps.com/pi latus/packages

For boat trips on Lake Lucerne, you can purchase the ticket onboard without any surcharge. Please enquire immediately after boarding.

There is no guarantee the cob-wheel from Alpnachstad to Pilatus will be operational on 14-15 May. It is possible but also weather dependent and the regular mid-May start could be delayed. You will need to check when you are in Lucerne.

You can only buy the ticket for the boat on board. For the cog-wheel and cableway access to Pilatus you are best off buying at the ticket counter at Kriens or Alpnachstad (depending which way round you go). Even if you buy on-line you will need to visit the ticket counter to receive a mag-stripe card for access to the mountain. Anna lists some other places you can purchase tickets but I’m pretty sure that unless you actually buy at the ticket counters at Kriens or Alpnachstad you have to exchange the ticket/voucher for a mag-stripe card on arrival at the base. I stand to be corrected.
