Questions Swiss Rail Pass for Seniors options

Short summary – read this first

Lary1047 is planning a trip to Switzerland this coming May with their partner, focusing on the Lucerne area. They want to know if the Swiss Travel Pass would save them money on train, lift, and boat tickets, as they will be exploring Mt Pilatus, Mt Titlis, and Lake tours. They are also looking for local dining and shopping recommendations during their stays in Lucerne and Lugano.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider the 8-day Swiss Travel Pass or the Swiss Half Fare Card, as both could save you money on travel.
  • Check resources for calculating costs between passes and regular tickets to find the best option for your itinerary.
  • Explore local restaurants for authentic Swiss cuisine, as they offer a more budget-friendly dining experience.
  • Look into boat tours on Lake Lucerne and Lake Lugano to enhance your travel experience.

    Hello,

We are traveling in Switzerland this coming May and trying to figure if one of the Swiss rail passes would benefit us or should we just buy the train tickets, lifts and boat tickets as we travel. We are seniors over 65 and will be traveling together meaning buying 2 tickets at a time. We do plan on taking a trip either to Mt Pilatus, Mt Titlis or Mt Rigi in the Lucerne area not sure which one yet. We will also taking boat tours on Lake Lucerne and Lake Lugano while we are visiting those cities. With all of the Swiss Rail packages that are available it is somewhat confusing.

Here is our travel itinerary to get an idea of our plans,Gengenbach Germany to Lucerne (staying 3 nights) then onto Lugano (staying 3 nights) then head to Verona, Italy.

We are always open for suggestions and ideas of what to see and where to enjoy the regional foods, we also enjoy shopping. We are not expensive restaurant people, would prefer enjoying the local small restaurants and sampling the local cuisine.

Thanks to everyone that has suggestions and ideas.
