Hello , we are going to be in Interlaken from May 24th to 29th and then 1 day in Lucerne on 29th. Wanted to know if we can do Geneva and Montreux in one day or should we just do Montreux. I am going to get Swiss rail pass for 8 days. This is what I am thinking but would like to get recommendations and any other suggestion. Based on your recommendations we can change our plans. We are reaching Interlaken on May 24 around noon. So first day will get half day to go around. Thanks

May 24: Interlaken and surrounding like Wengen. May 25: Jungfraujoch May 26: Zermatt - Matterhorn May 27: Geneva- Montreux, May 28 : Bern .May 29 : Lucerne : From Lucerne Mt. Titlis and Lucerne city. May 30 and 31 : we are in Zurich. will go to Rhine fall one day and city tour next day. Flight back is June 1st in the morning.

Hi Cshah1, and welcome to MySwissAlps,

I would just do Montreux. It's nicer than Geneva and you will have plenty of things to do in Montreux. If you would still like to do both, use the Swiss railways timetable to plan your trip.

You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” to understand if the 8 day Swiss Travel Pass is your best option.. A clearly mapped out itinerary is the basis for deciding which pass suits. Based on your itinerary you need to do the sums based on the cost of all your planned trips on trains, boats, cable cars etc. The page has a spreadsheet to help you.

You can use the Swiss train timetable to work out the fares for any trip. When you go to “buy a ticket” the fare you see on the right hand side of the page will normally be the half-fare price. Double it to get full fare. With a Swiss Travel Pass it is free provided it is shown as free on the validity map which you can download here.

>> May 24: Interlaken and surrounding like Wengen.

On arrival in Interlaken, consider leaving your luggage in the lockers at Interlaken Ost station and going straight up to Mürren. Save Interlaken for the evening and after dark, as it has little to offer in the way of scenic beauty.

For a circular route taking in Mürren, please see rockoyster's post of Jan 27, 2018 - 2:11 AM on the following page: rum/topic/cable-car-from-lauterbrunnen-to-murren

There is a picture with the route marked on this page: /english/getting-there/

>> May 25: Jungfraujoch

Make sure to take the circular route e.g. up via Grindelwald, down via Wengen and Lauterbrunnen (or vice versa) - see attached diagram of the circular route. If you are coming down via Wengen, you can stop off in Wengen and take a short walk to the lookout for a stunning view over the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

For directions and a photo of the view, please see my post of Feb 20, 2018 - 12:28 PM on the following page: rum/topic/3-nights-itnry-which-travel-pass-pays-off
