    Hi!

We are planning for a 24 days trip in Switzerland including 6 nights in Grindelwald followed by 3 nights in Interlaken. The idea is to get the Oberland pass as we will travel quite a bit to the mountains and we will also have the half fare pass. I notice the difference between the 8 and 10 days pass is only CHF19 (2nd class, reduced price) and therefore, may be worthwhile to consider. We are traveling from Zermatt to Grindelwald on “Day 1” and leaving Interlaken to Sion on “Day 10” and hence the 10 day pass should cover most of our journeys with some exceptions. From the BOP map, the limit towards the south is Brig (and not Visp!). My questions are:

    1. On “Day 1”, the BOP should cover part of the route from Zermatt to Grindelwald right? So, if I were to buy half fare ticket, what would that be… Zermatt to ??

    2. On “Day 10”, the limit is also Brig. So from which point should my half fare ticket be (?? to Sion)?

    Thank you so much!

    Hi Askswiss,

That’s right, the Regional Pass Bernese Oberland (RPBO) provides free travelling in the Bernese Oberland region up to Brig. However do take note that the pass is only valid on the BLS train from/to Brig via Kandersteg. This is basically the Regioexpress Lotschberger train which goes over the mountain and not through the base tunnel. In other words, the RPBO is not valid on the fast trains which travel through the base tunnel. For comparison, fast trains from Interlaken to Brig takes about 1 hour, meanwhile Interlaken to Brig via the BLS Regioexpress Lotcshberger train takes about 1 hour 45 mins.

    1. So for the trip from Zermatt to Grindelwald: Zermatt to Brig is half-price with the Swiss Half Fare Card (CHF19). Brig to Grindelwald – free with the RPBO on the BLS train via Kandersteg.

2.For the trip from Interlaken to Sion: Interlaken to Brig – free with the RPBO on the BLS train via Kandersteg. Brig to Sion – half price with the Swiss Half Fare Card (about CHF10)

You can check train schedules on the SBB timetable.

Hope this provides you with the information you need to plan your trip.

    Regards,

    Anna
