    Hello everyone,

I have some questions regarding skiing in Gstaad. I am organizing a ski trip with some friends(well I’m organizing) to Gstaad. We are a group of 4 for now, as 2 still have to confirm. We want to go by the end of January, beginning of February, for 4 days. Is there someone who could recommend some good ski rental shops ? None of us has equipment, but we wanted to rent everything in anticipations, as it would end up being cheaper, as I heard.

    Cheers,
    Nikole

Hi Nikole and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Gstaad (http://www.myswissalps.com/gs taad) is a great place if you want to ski. Can you ski? If you are a beginner I recommend to take a few lessons from an instructor, you know, safety first. 🙂 Read more about snow fun tips in Switzerland at http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/snow.

You can take ski lessons and also rent ski equipment in Gstaad: http://www.gstaad.ch/en/winte r/skiing-snowboarding/services. html.

If you are looking for accomodation in Gstaad: http://www.myswissalps.com/gs taad/hotels and http://www.myswissalps.com/gs taad/rentals.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello,

Thank you so much for the nice answer. Yes, we have some experience skiing, although we never went to Switzerland. We are trying to get to know some new places 🙂 Will definitely taking into account the links you send to me. For the ski rental is there some place you recommend as the list is pretty big?

Regarding accommodation, there are some places that are really nice. This weekend I will have to choose one for sure for the group 🙂

Thank you so much for the help

I love Gstaad! Definitely one of the best places I went skiing. You and your group will enjoy it for sure. Did a similar thing to you last year and we came back wishing for more.

We were a group of 7 and rented a Chalet there, as it was the cheapest option and we could all stick together

Thank you so much!! Can’t wait. Anticipation is definitely growing 🙂

Did you also rent equipment there or did you take your own?

I’m afraid I’m going to disagree with others, I don’t rate Gstaad particularly highly for skiing. I will offer some reasons for that statement but of course they may not be reasons that worry you, so as ever it is persoanal choice.

Some reasons why a skier might avoid going to Gstaad:

    • Ski area is very spread out, Gstaad village itself has only 3 or 4 lifts accessing compartively low altitude summits
    • the distance between the furthest west ski area and the furthest East ski area in the ‘Gstaad’ region is 14km
    • Gstaad is a low-ish altitude village from a skiing point of view so if the weather warms up ‘early’ next year condition could be poor (although equally they could be great). Whatever happens, with a low altitude resort runs back to the village are always at risk of being heavy going or closed

Yes some of us had to rent equipment, other already had their own. We went to a place called Vertex, the first one in the list above ( http://www.sport2000rent.com/ en/skirental/destinati ons/switzerland/bern/g staad

). Hope this helps and that you have fun skiing.
