Hi Vinod2301,
I’d say you don’t need a reservation. June isn’t the peak of high season yet (https://www.myswissalps.com/besttimetovisit), and the earliest trains usually aren’t that full.
But if you’re absolutely sure about the date and departure time of your trip, you can book a ticket including seat reservation ahead if you want: https://www.myswissalps.com/brienzerrothorn/tickets.
Does this answer your question?

ArnoModerator15484 posts29 May 2022 at 13:41:04 #942487Hi Vinod2301,
The Swiss Half Fare Card offers a 50% discount between Brienz and the Brienzer Rothorn, and that’s the exact same amount as offered by the Swiss Travel Pass (see “Get a discount with your rail pass” at http://www.myswissalps.com/brienzerrothorn/tickets). So it’s no problem to select the Swiss Half Fare Card at https://www.happyrail.com/en/depart?from=brienz-brb&to=brienzer-rothorn.

Thank you. But i am still very confused. On Happyrail, fare shown is CHF 30.50 one side, whereas on shop.brienz-rothorn-bahn.ch/ this has return on early train for 37.50 CHF + 8CHF for seat guarntee. That means its cheaper on shop.brienz-rothorn-bahn.ch/ website and also gives me seat guarantee on early ticket. Also when I book return on shop.brienz-rothorn-bahn.ch/ , I take 08:36 am train, can I take any train return?
Also, How many hours I should target?
My base is Interlaken. Lets say I target to take first train at 08:36 am and reach by 0931. Then I take 11:15 am train back to Brienz and reach by 12:20. Then go to see Lucernce & Mt Rigi. Does that sound ok to you?
ArnoModerator15484 posts31 May 2022 at 17:41:38 #942489Hi Vinod2301,
I’m not very familiar with the webshop of the Brienzer Rothorn Bahn. A normal return fare at 50% discount seems to cost CHF 47 + CHF 8 (seat reservation) = CHF 55 there. There can indeed be price differences between resellers (see “Prices, payment and currency” at http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/wheretobuy). The Brienzer Rothorn Bahn webshop moreover seems to offer a cheaper fare for the earliest train, which probably is not reflected in HappyRail‘s prices. We will pass this on to them.
As for your specific ride: yes, it looks like it’s cheaper to get your tickets via the webshop you mentioned. I still think there’s no need to book in advance for June though. This also gives you more freedom to take any train back that suits you.
I think your plan for a day trip can work, if you don’t spend too much time in Lucerne (https://www.myswissalps.com/lucerne) and at Rigi (https://www.myswissalps.com/rigi). You can save some time by not catching the train back to Brienz, but the cable car down to Sörenberg instead. Brienzer Rothorn-Lucerne takes about 1h55 this way, as opposed to 2h40 when traveling by cogwheel train to Brienz.
Please see the below pages to plan each segment of your trip in detail:
Vinod2301Participant18 posts31 May 2022 at 18:23:02 #942490This really helps, it costs me same anyway. One way fare to Rothorn is 24.50 and return is 12.50 via cable car. Also would you help me choose the best or quickest way to reach Rigi top. I will hike down from there.
AnnaModerator6384 posts31 May 2022 at 19:29:00 #942491Hi Vino2301,
There are various ways to get to the top of Mt Rigi (Rigi Kulm), as explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/rigi/gettingthere
The quickest way will depend on your departure point. From Arth-Goldau, the cogwheel train will get you to the summit in about 45 mins. From Vitznau, the cogwheel train takes you up in about 30 minutes.
I recommend you study the details in the link above.
Regards,
Anna
