We are a group of 7 Hong Kong tourists adults planning for a ten days trip in coming late August. We will travel from Zurich to Bern, Lucern,Grindelwald, zermatt,St.Moritz including the Glacier Express.

What type of rail pass should we choose in order to save money?

Hi Laisofun8 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

You can read through the rail pass options for comparison here.

I think perhaps a Swiss Travel Pass is your best bet. You can order online and print at home. Once you have this there is no need to buy any other tickets in Switzerland and it covers most public transit in local towns as well. There are some attractions where you still have to buy a ticket (at a discount) and that is noted here.

You will also have to make a seat reservation on the Glacier Express train and you can do that here.

I hope that helps, let us know if you have further questions!

As a second thought, what is the difference in using the Swiss Half Price Pass? Can I buy the Glacier Express and reserve seats within card through online. When should I purchase the rail pass if I travel in late August this year

Hi Laisofun8,

You can read more about the Swiss Half Fare Card here. It gives you 50% off the ticket price but the reservation is still the regular price. You still need to buy a ticket. With the Swiss Travel Pass you just need to make a seat reservation.

As with the Swiss Travel Pass it is best to order at least one week prior to departure (they don't run out). Seat reservations should be made as soon as possible (often you can't make reservations more than 90 days before the date of travel).

You can find prices for individual prices on these trips here.
You can also find some fares for routes here. Be sure to remember that you get discounts for these trips with the Swiss Travel Pass - noted here.

You can either buy them online (make sure you select that you have the Swiss Travel Pass before booking) at the site I linked above or when you are in Switzerland.
