My family and I will be in Switzerland for 11 days starting October 13. We’re planning to purchase STP 2nd class. Do we have to have a 1st class STP in order to reserve 1st class on Glacier express train?
We have already reserved 1st class on Glacier train, but for some reasons, we didn’t get the ticket online. We have asked the Customer service but they’re so slow in responding to our inquiry. Will appreciate if someone can assist us or advise what to do.

Where did you buy the 1st class seat reservation for the Glacier Express? Contacting the retailer is for sure the best thing to do. See our recommendations below and keep us updated on your case, please: – http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress/packages

You mean you reserved 1st class seats, right? If so you would have gotten email confirmation and links. You would ha e been charged something like $43 per adult. Otherwise maybe it didn’t go through?
With 2nd class STP you can simply upgrade to first class for the trip for $58 per adult or so. Do it easily on the SBB app before the train departs. Or the attendants were very nice and helpful.

Hi Steph,
thank you for the quick reply. We had the seat reservation thru Happy Rail. As of now, we haven’t received any response yet regarding our inquiry. We actually provided them the confirmation number but to no avail. We wanted to cancel that reservation and just create a new one but I believe cancellation is not allowed.

Thank you Steph and Meemskirk.
Taking the 1st class STP would be very expensive for 4 people. We’ll not spend the full 12 days in Switzerland. It will be 1 day/1 night in Milan then 3 days in Nice, Monaco and Monte Carlo. Is it practical that we just buy 2nd class STP (8 days), not flexible, and just upgrade to 1st class if we need to for each leg of trip?
Also, what do you suggest what train to take going to Milan via Glacier express.
Is Eurail pass more practical if we we will be traveling to Milan, Nice, Monte Carlo and Monaco from Switzerland than point to point ticket?

Yes you can easily upgrade as I said before:

We went from Milan to Tirano to St Moritz then onto the glacier express. You could do the same in reverse. The leg from Tirano to St Moritz was on the Bernina Express and was gorgeous, much prettier than the Glacier Express.
