I am here from the United States studying in Chur, Switzerland. I am not sure I should get a half fare card, but plan on traveling a lot during these 5 months. I noticed that there is a half-fare card for residents of Switzerland for CHF 185 for one-year. I do not have a Swiss passport but I do Swiss student visa and residence permit. Does this apply to me?

Hello Cassidy and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’re coming to Switzerland for a longer stay!!! 🙂

You don’t need a Swiss Passport to be eligible for the annual Swiss Half Fare Card, only Swiss residency, which I would say you have with your permit.

I would be surprised if you wouldn’t get it. However, I suggest you contact the SBB (Swiss national rail company) directly to get a definite answer.
    Find contact details below:

For input on validity of the Swiss Half Fare Card find input in below link:

And please feel free to contact us for any trip you plan, even if the information on the rail passes on this page is geared more for “tourists” without residence permit.

    Best,
    Steph
