Swiss Rail Pass and Tell-Pass, what's covered?

So if you purchase a Swiss Rail Pass or Half-fare pass, do these normally cover the itineraries for two days that one would spend around Lucerne? Or is the Tell-Pass for 2 consecutive days such a good deal that it would be a better additional purchase or alternative purchase?
