I am planning ahead for a trip to Switzerland in July 2022 and would like some advice on when and where to purchase rail tickets or travel passes.

My journeys will be

1. Zurich airport to Grindelwald (Day 1)

2. Jungfrau (Day 2)

3. Grindelwald to Lauterbrunnen (Day 4)

4. Schiltorn (Day 5)

5. Lauterbrunnen to Zurich (Day 6)

6. Zurich to Tirano via Chur on Bernina Express (Day 8)

I may be a little premature with this request but I like to plan well in advance.

Also, looking for best deals.

I think it is very good that you are planning in advance also it is important to calculate costs as Switzerland is not the cheapest country 🙂

Regarding the Swiss rail passes, you’ll find a useful guide with a calculation spreadsheet that helps you to choose your rail pass in 5 steps at http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass. The downloadable spreadsheet also includes links to the “Where it’s valid” page for all available passes, be sure to study it carefully.

Usually, tourists prefer the Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard) or the Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass). As you are mostly travelling in the Jungfrau region (http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauregion) you might want to have a look at the Jungfrau Regional Pass too: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass. You can combine it with a Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass) when you are travelling by the Bernina Express (http://www.myswissalps.com/berninaexpress).
