We will be traveling in August. We land in Zurich on Friday morning. Saturday morning we travel to Lauterbrunnen by rail. Our apartment is in Lauterbrunnen and we plan to hike and sightsee for six days in the surrounding area. We need to get from Zurich to Lauterbrunnen and back the following Saturday, with flexible regional travel. We are seeking most economical way to enjoy this region. What would be your suggestion to enjoy hiking, cable cars, and other forms of transportation in the immediate area?

    Hi NYHikers, welcome to MySwissAlps!

I’d suggest to look into these two options:

    1. Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland + tickets from Zurich to Bern or Lucerne, where you can start using the pass: myswissalps.com/ regionalpassberneseobe rland.
    2. Swiss Half Fare Card, allowing you to buy all your tickets with a 50% discount: myswissalps.com/ swisshalffarecard.

    Do these match your requirements?

Just spent 9 days in Lauterbrunnen landing in Zurich and found that the Regional Bernese Oberland pass should meet all your needs -take a look at what the pass covers and by far it covers almost every form of transportation you would need from Zurich to Lauterbrunnen and back–it is amazing what extensive area this pass covers and you will save a bundle—Covering trains lifts gondolas Boats buses—yes there a couple of things they do not fully cover–Like Murren to top of Schilthorn( 1/2 price) and Kleine Scheidegg to top Jungfrau – After looking up the cost of transportation without pass and seeing what this pass covers if you are spending time in this area it is a bargain–you are not limited to 1 trip a day nor certain hours –can hop off to Bern Lucerne Brig and any other place in the Region you might choose!!!! Pick up your pass at TI or any rail station or I think you can order on line ! Have a wonderful time with great transportation options already paid for just show your pass to the conductor!!!!
