    Hello,

We are 2 couples who are driving trough Europe this July 2021.

On the way we will visit Switzerland for 7 days, starting in Lausanne with 3 nights, and visit all of lake geneve, and the cities around it.

After Lausanne, we will drive to Luzern, but with stops in Bern, Zurich, and the big Rheifall near Zurich. In Luzern we will stay for 2 nights to see all in that area.

After this we will drive to the Interlaken / Lauterbrunnen area for 2 nights, but we dont know where to stay. Do you have any ideas?

Also – is there any scenic routes in these areas we should drive?

After this we will drive to Como, Italy – but maybe visit Lugano on the way out.

How does this plan sound?, and what routes should we drive? – What is must see on this trip?

    Hi Philip Hela,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps!

That sounds like a great plan. It is certainly do-able.

Here’s a couple of useful links if you’re looking for places to stay in Lauterbrunnen and Interlaken.

Also, if this is your first time driving in Switzerland, we have plenty of good tips here: http://www.myswissalps.com/car

Some scenic drive suggestions here, which you can customise to fit your itinerary: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/scenictrips/car

I feel you should cover Interlaken / Lauterbrunnen before Luzern if you are coming from Lake Geneva

You can have 3 bases – One in Lake Geneva, one in Lauterbrunnen and one in Luzern. Half Travel Card can be useful for you. You can have a lot of hiking options / mountain tops in Lauterbrunen area

Lake Lugano / Lake Como will be also worthwhile visiting even though I have not personally visited but read a lot

    Hello Anna,

    Thanks for your reply.

We want to stay in a nice play with a good view, but also in a place where we easily can come around all the places.

I have been looking into Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Murren, Grindelwald. – what is the differences between these cities, and what can you recommend for us?

    Hello Shroffchetan,

    Thank you.

We will have 3 bases as you suggest – but we dont know if it will be Murren, Wengen, Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen yet.

    What would you suggest?

    Hi Philip Hela,

Wengen and Mürren are no-car zones so you will have to take the train. You can either park your car in Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. Lauterbrunnen is situated in a valley and Grindelwald is a mountain village. If you like great views, I would highly recommend Grindelwald as a base: http://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwald

    Anna

Hi Phillip Hela! These towns are all charming in their own way. Which one’s best really depends on your personal preferences. Anna already provided a link to the Grindelwald information. You can compare this to the other options in the Jungfrau region using these links:

If you’d want to stay in Murren or Wengen, traveling by car wouldn’t be the best option. An overall comparison of driving versus using public transportation can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/carversustrain.

    Hi Phillip Hela,

if we go to the Jungfrau area by car we always stay in Grindelwald. We love that place so much. Wonderful views, great transport options if we choose to leave the car behind. (And also best coffee – just according to our taste: at Cafe3692) 🙂

There are plenty of great rentals and hotels there too: http://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwald/rentals and http://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwald/hotels.

    Have a nice day,

    Ildiko
