Interlaken is the most popular town in the Bernese Oberland, so it offers plenty of accommodation: varying from low-budget hostels to very luxurious hotels. Also there is a wide range of locations to choose from. Which hotel to book, depends on your goals and expectations.
Hotels near Interlaken's train stations
If you plan to do your day trips by train (recommended), then it's very convenient to book a hotel at walking distance from one of the train stations.
The stations are the starting points for all attractions, including the Jungfraujoch, Schilthorn and many more. The Interlaken Ost station offers most train connections, but Interlaken West will work fine as well.

Hotels with plenty of parking in the suburbs
If you will mainly be traveling by car, we recommend to avoid the center of town: Bahnhofstrasse, Höheweg and some of the side streets. Hotels here usually have limited or no parking space, in which case you need to park in public garages. Either way, it will be paid parking. Hotels in other parts of Interlaken offer more and sometimes free parking.

Suggested hotels in the suburb of Unterseen (north-east of central Interlaken, near the West train station):
Hotels with mountain views of the Jungfrau
For the absolute best views in town, you will need to find a hotel with a south/south-east facing room, preferably around the Höhematte. That's an open area in the center of town along the Höheweg, offering wonderful unobstructed views to the Jungfrau mountain range. Our suggestions:
Hotels with a view of the Aare river
The river Aare runs across Interlaken and connects Lake Brienz to Lake Thun. There are various hotels right on the river, offering a nice view from the rooms and/or in-house restaurant. These are your best options:
Central versus quiet location
If you prefer all kinds of shops and restaurants at close proximity, then book a hotel on the Bahnhofstrasse or Höheweg. This is the lively center of Interlaken, between the West and Ost (East) train stations.
The sidestreets Centralstrasse, Marktgasse and Jungfraustrasse are also part of central Interlaken. The farther you're away from this area, the quieter it will be. Some of our preferred hotels in central Interlaken:
If you are looking for a quiet location, you can consider to book a hotel in one of the nearby villages instead of Interlaken itself. You'll only be a few minutes from town, but in a more rural environment. We recommend the villages Bönigen and Ringgenberg on Lake Brienz, and Wilderswil en route to the Jungfrau region. A few hotels to consider:

Winter sports hotels
Nearby winter sports areas are the Jungfrau region (Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and Wengen) and Hasliberg (Meiringen). The Interlaken Ost train station offers easy access to these areas. The hotels at walking distance from that station are ideal. A few suggestions:
Free guest card
All hotels in Interlaken provide a free guest card when checking in. The card allows free local traveling and discounts on local attractions. If you own a rail pass, you'll get free traveling and a better discount on attractions in a much wider area.
