    Hi Yulius,

if you have a Swiss Travel Pass you will get 50% off the mountain transport around Zermatt (like Gornergrat, Klein Matterhorn (Glacier Paradise, Sunnegga-Rothorn. You can buy these tickets in advance or at the ticket counter. I recommend buying them only at the ticket counter or online 1 day in advance so you can check the weather first. In case of very bad weather you may want to change your plans.

If you have a Swiss Travel Pass, just go to the ticket booth in the relevant station at Zermatt, show the STP to obtain your 50% discounted ticket.

The Gornergrat Railway station is positioned at 90 degrees next to the main MGB station in Zermatt, and the ticket booths are clearly obvious on entering the station building from the street. There is no benefit to buying tickets in advance as the trains are all freely open to all.

Klein Matterhorn base station is at the south (‘upper’) end of the village (a 1200m walk through the main street, or slightly longer via the scenic path along the river) or there is an urban electric bus service

    Zermat – Matternhorn : CHF 109

    Furi – Schwarzee : CHF 40

    Furi – Trockener Steg : CHF 61

In case you want to go up to the top, to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, then you should buy the Zermatt – Matterhorn Glacier Paradise ticket (return).

If you want you can get out everywhere (like Furi, Schwarzsee) from the cable car and walk around a bit then continue your trip – in the same direction.

The cableways from Zermatt to Klein Matterhorn have been built up over a century, and modernised gradually. This together with the complex geography of the landscape means that Zermatt – Klein Matterhorn is not one single lift.

    There are two routes

    1) old connected direct large size cable cars on fixed cables: Zermatt – Furi – Trockener Steg – Klein Matterhorn (3 sections, change cable car cabins at Furi and Trockener Steg

    2) the modern small ‘gondola’ cable way Zermatt – Furi – Schwarzsee – Trockener Steg (known as Matterhorn Express). Because this is a Gondola design on a continuous cable you can go from Zermatt to Trockener Steg in the same cabin

As such as long as you have a Zermatt – Klein Matterhorn ticket you can break your journey for a few minutes at the intermediate points.

BUT PLEASE NOTE, the Matterhorn Express (a key ski lift) is closed for the month of May for it’s post ski season maintenance, so you won’t be able to go to Schwarzsee
