    Hi!

I & my family will be traveling in Switzerland this May. If we buy the Travel Pass, do we still need to purchase individual point-point tickets? i.e., does the Travel Pass only gives a discount, does not replace the need for point-point tickets.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ganeshnaraya,

The Swiss Travel Pass is good for travel throughout Switzerland, no need to buy point to point tickets. See details here:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass

It provides passage on trains, intercity trams, Post buses, ferries, and free admission to about 500 museums. In some cases travel extends to other countries and back, like the ferry from Nyon Switzerland to Yvoire France and back. It also offers discounts to some of the few private routes that aren’t covered by the STP. But I would urge you to read the fine print yourself and review the details. The STP is an excellent purchase for carefree travel in Switzerland. For us, the STP has become our gold standard method of travel in Switzerland.

    Hello Ganeshnaraya,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

The answer to your question very much depends on which pass you are referring to, as there are several. Get an overview of available passes and tickets here:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses

As Mike says with the Swiss Travel Pass you don’t need to buy an additional ticket (with some exceptions for cable cars/mountains) whereas with other passes (e.g. the Swiss Half Fare Card) you would need to buy tickets for each journey, with a general 50% discount. You will find a “Validity” and “How to use” tab for all of the available passes.

    Mike, Steph,

Thanks much for the clear replies.

Does the Swiss Travel Pass replace the ticket needed to go to Jungfraujoch? Or is a separate ticket need to be purchased, only somewhat discounted by the Travel Pass?

    Thanks.

    Hi Ganeshnaraya,

The Swiss Travel Pass provides a 25% discount of the ticket to the Jungfraujoch:

    Best,
    Steph

    Hello Ganeshnaraya,

Just to follow up with Steph’s helpful info, note that you can travel from Grindelwald or Interlaken Ost to Kleine Scheidegg, and it is on a private route. So both of these legs are not covered by the STP, but are discounted by 25%. Kleine Scheidegg is the departure point for Jungfraujoch. So you can travel to Kleine Scheidegg without purchasing a ticket to Jungfraujoch, if desired. Then the trip to Jungfraujoch is also discounted by 25%. Hopefully, I didn’t totally confuse you. Just in case, this is explained better here:

On one of our trips, we didn’t read the validity map correctly and ended up paying the surcharge for the trip from Interlaken to Kleine Scheidegg, so just wanted you to be aware. You should check the prices just so you are aware of the cost, and not be surprised. Some folks opt for the trip on the other side of valley to the Schilthorn, also quite spectacular, with all trams / gondolas and trains 100% covered by the Swiss Travel Pass to help with the travel budget. That trip is explained here:

Hope you have a great trip! We’ll be there the end of May and early June this year.

    Mike J
